What You Resist, Persists
Have you ever noticed that when you focus on what you don't want, you seem to attract more of it? I call this "the downward spiral". It's usually set off by someone or something that puts us into a bad place, and then when we focus on getting out of that bad place, it just seems to get worse and worse. This usually creates a domino effect that sends us spiraling out of control towards impending doom and disaster! Ok, it's probably not THAT bad!
Here are a couple of reasons why this happens, as well as what to do about it:
You get what you focus on
If you are focused on what you don't want, that's exactly what you will get! Think about this for a second. If you are focusing your attention on something you don't want, aren't you actually just spending your time and energy creating more of it? For example, if you say to yourself, "I don't want any more bad things to happen to me today", your mind is focusing on bad things! And, of course, then we generate more bad things as a result.
Here's what to do about it
Change your focus to what you DO want, not what you DON'T want. So, in our example, if you simply change your focus to, "I want something good to happen to me today", you are going to manifest that in your life.
You are swimming upstream
Next time things aren't going your way, pay attention to your energy levels. Is your energy low and negative? If it is, you are most likely "swimming upstream" and fighting the negative current in your life. This is a tough way to live.
Here's what to do about it
Let go of trying to "fight" what is going on. Rather go with the flow and focus on what brings you energy, comes easy to you, and is positive. Simply by shifting from fighting the current to going with the current can change your momentum from positive to negative very quickly!
You create a negative environment that supports you
Next time you are in a bad place, notice how you talk to yourself. Are you asking yourself negative type questions and thinking negative thoughts? Are you surrounding yourself with people that are supporting your negativity and allowing you to stay stuck? Is your environment damaging you? I imagine if you find yourself in a bad place, that's exactly what you are doing!
Here's what to do about it
First of all, change your self talk! Start asking what and how questions, instead of why questions. For example, shift from "Why does this always happen to me?", to "What's great about this situation?". Do you see the difference? Doesn't that feel much more positive and energetic?
Next, change your environment. Stop hanging out with negative people that allow you to stay stuck. Remember, drama creates more drama, so putting yourself in that type of environment will only breed more issues for you!
Keep these things in mind next time you find yourself wanting to resist the negative things or situations you find yourself in, and use the above tips to help shift your focus, as well as your outcome. Remember, you attract who you are!
