Talking To Yourself?
One of the key things that successful sales people do on a consistent basis is control their inner voice. Your inner voice either supports and keeps you positive, or it slowly destroys you by creating a negative reality. For example, how do you talk to yourself after a sales call? Does your inner voice support you by thinking about what you did well? Or, is it constantly second guessing your actions? If it's the later, you will find it increasingly hard to motivate yourself to hit your goals. Here are a couple of things you can do to manage your inner voice:
Pay Attention To It
The first step is to honestly access where you are and what your current pattern is. Do you ask yourself empowering questions? Does your self talk support you? If not, its time for a change.
Replace Negative Questions with Empowering Ones
If you find that you ask yourself negative questions, break the pattern by replacing them with positive, empowering ones. I encourage you to come up with some of your own, but here are a couple that I use:
What is great about this situation?
What did I do well?
How can I improve myself in this area?
What's one thing I did well today?
One great way to train your mind to work in a more positive way is to come up with 10 powerful questions, write them on an index card, and ask and answer these questions a couple of times a day. This will train you to start empowering your mind to help you achieve what you want.
Listen to Self Help and Inspirational Books on CD
Most salespeople spend a lot of time in the car or on planes. One way to keep your inner voice positive is to fill your mind with inspirational books on CD. You can listen to them in the car or on the plane, and they keep you inspired, motivated, and positive.
Managing your inner voice is one of the keys to being a great salesperson. If you don't believe in yourself and your abilities, you will have no chance of hitting your goals and being your best. Learning to manage your inner voice and keeping it positive is an important skill to have to be able to take it to the next level.
Happy selling!
