Small Business Corner – What Is “Club Dub” And Why Should You Care?
Every week after a win, the Chicago Bears transform their locker room into a night club atmosphere complete with disco balls, lights, loud music, and of course – dancing! The brainchild of new head coach Matt Nagy, the tradition was started after their first win of the season against the Seattle Seahawks, and has since been dubbed, “Club Dub”. The tradition has continued every week after a win, and is one of the reasons the Bears have transformed themselves from a 5 – 11 last place team into a 12 – 4 playoff team. You may be wondering how this helped with their turnaround, and what it has to do with your business. Well, read on…
Nagy first got the idea from fellow coach Joe Maddon of the Chicago Cubs, who emphasizes celebrating after every win. Maddon is famous for turning the Chicago Cubs from the “loveable losers” into World Series Champions. Keep in mind that it had been over 100 years since the Cubs had won much of anything, so perhaps he’s on to something. What exactly is he on to though?
The key that both coaches have tapped into is the power of celebration! Think about this for a second. How do you feel when you celebrate? For most of us, celebration is fun. It’s exciting. It makes us happy. So, why does that matter? When you are having fun, when you’re pumped up, and when you are happy, you want to keep doing whatever it is you are celebrating. It creates momentum. It reinforces teamwork. It creates an atmosphere of winning. It reinforces your message as the leader of the team as well as all the work that everyone put into winning.
So, how can you tap into the potential of celebration in your business? I encourage my clients to celebrate on a daily basis. Yes, that’s right. Every – single – day. At the end of each day, find something to celebrate. Maybe it’s a big goal you accomplished. Perhaps you had a really tough day, and you just barely got through it. Celebrate that. Maybe someone on your team put in an extra effort. Whatever it is, celebration creates an atmosphere of positivity and focus that is contagious. It will build momentum, and it will certainly help you get to the next level.
The biggest impact that celebration will have on your business is on your mindset. In my experience, 80% of all results and success come from having a positive mindset, and there is no better way to foster that than through regular celebration! Think about this for a moment. Are you going to come up with better solutions in your business if you start from a place of having a very negative mindset? Not a chance. When you, and your team, have a solid, positive mindset, solutions will flow much more freely. Your team will gel. The atmosphere you work in will improve, and your customers will notice the difference.
So, I encourage you to find a way to celebrate daily. Build your own version of “Club Dub”, and enjoy the process of taking your business to the next level. You’ll get better results, build positive momentum, and have more fun! Enjoy…
