The Real Key To Success – Detaching From The Results
Have you ever noticed how attached to results you are? In our fast paced world, it seems that we are always looking for better and faster ways for us to become successful. We are always looking to make more money, have more things, get more for less, and do anything to be more "successful" - however you want to define success. But where is this really leading us? Is this a paradigm for success, or are we just fooling ourselves?
Being so focused on results forces us to live our lives in one of two places - the future or the past. When we are goal and future oriented, we spend a large amount of time planning and anticipating what will happen, or what we want to have happen tomorrow. We do a lot of if...then thinking. For example, if I get that big promotion, then I can afford a new car, which will make me happy. The other place we spend a lot of time in is the past. We have to analyze the past and "fix" things so that in the future we can be happy.
When we are so results focused, we spend all of our time on things that have yet to happen, or things that have already happened - both areas that we have no control over. The only thing that we can control, and enjoy, is the present. If you think about it, living in the moment and focusing on what you are doing now is the only way to create what you want and enjoy what you have! You can only focus on one thing at a time, and if you aren't focusing on what's happening in the moment, it all passes you by.
I encourage you to let go of having a "results" focus. If you instead focus on the process - what you are doing right now - and truly enjoy the life you have, the people around you, and what you are doing in the moment, you might find that you live a more fulfilled live. You also may find that the success you want, however you define it, happens automatically!
