Leverage – One Key To Achieving Your Goals
There are a number of keys to effectively achieving your goals. One key that is often forgotten is leverage. A goal without leverage is really nothing more than a wish. Without leverage, there is nothing to get us to take action. Here are a couple of things that you can do to create leverage for yourself:
1. Put a specific time frame on your goal.
This will build some urgency to take action and accomplish your goal.
2. Get a partner.
Get a success partner, coach, or someone that can hold you accountable to your intention. You can create further leverage by providing some incentive for them to keep on top of you, such as paying or making a bet with them.
3. Create positive and negative consequences.
This can be very powerful. Decide what your reward will be when you achieve your goal, and what your punishment will be if you don't. Use both to gain the most leverage on yourself.
4. Tell everyone you know what you are committed to as your outcome.
When you tell other people what your intentions are and why you are doing it, they will hold you accountable by asking how things are going. This can be a very effective way to create some leverage for yourself. So, next time you are setting a goal, or wondering why you are not taking action on the goals you have, remember the power of leverage!
Happy goal setting!
