How Balanced Are You?
Whenever you purchase new tires for your car, the manufacturer always recommends that you rotate and balance the tires every so often, in order to avoid excessive wear and tear, with the overall goal being to ensure long life and peak performance. The tires on your car are a perfect analogy for your life. If you don't have balance in your life, it is impossible to reach and maintain peak performance. So, how balanced are you?
Here is a quick test to see how balanced you really are. Rank each of the following areas from 1 to 10 (10 being the highest), according to how satisfied you are in each area:
Career, finances, physical environment/possessions, health/fitness, fun/recreation, personal development/education, friends/community, family, relationships/significant other, and spiritual
Now that you have completed your assessment, where are you falling short? What areas need improvement, and what is it costing you to settle for less than you can be in these areas? Are you spending so much time at work that your relationships are failing? Are you neglecting your physical fitness and sacrificing your health and energy? Or maybe you already have perfect balance?
Now that you have identified some areas that need improvement, use this exercise as a spring board to take action. Identify a couple things that you can do to improve the areas that you are not satisfied with, and take action!
By improving your balance, you will find that you increase your ability to reach peak performance and maintain it. You will find that sometimes less effort in one area and more effort in another improves the overall quality of your life and the results that are possible for you!
