Believing Vs. Expecting
The book “The Secret” has been in the news a lot this year. If you believe in what the book says, you simply have to do the following 3 things to have and attract the success that you want:
- Ask for exactly what you want
- Know that the universe will always answer you
- Be prepared to receive what you have asked for
What’s really interesting is the last statement, “be prepared to receive what you have asked for”. Often times I talk to people that have written goals, but they don’t really believe deep inside themselves that they deserve what they are asking for. Therefore, their goals never become reality. So, how do you prepare yourself to actually receive what you are asking for?
The real key to this step is to truly understand what it means to be prepared to receive something. You see, there is a big distinction between believing something, and expecting something! The dictionary defines believing as “to have confidence in the truth, the existence, or the reliability of something, although without absolute proof that one is right in doing so”, and expecting as “to look forward to; regard as likely to happen; anticipate the occurrence or the coming of”. So, what’s the distinction? Read on…
Believing something will happen is simply having confidence that it will happen. For example, you may believe that your team will win the Super Bowl this year. However, and here’s the big distinction, expecting it to happen means that you are actually planning for this to occur! So, when you go out and buy Super Bowl tickets and say, “my team is going to the Super Bowl this year, and I am going to be there”, that is expecting! See the difference?
So, you might be wondering, what’s the big deal? Well, if you really want to manifest your goals and dreams and make them reality, the key is not only asking for what you want, but preparing, making the space, and totally EXPECTING that it will come to pass. When you do this, I can guarantee that what you want to happen, will! Try it, you might just find that the key thing missing for you is the expectation that it will absolutely happen!
